What Is an MDL? MDL vs. Class Action
An MDL coordinates federal cases with common factual questions for pretrial proceedings. A class action uses a different procedural mechanism for representative litigation. An MDL can include proposed class actions, but the two terms are not interchangeable.
What does the MDL Panel do?
The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation decides whether related federal cases should be brought together for coordinated or consolidated pretrial proceedings and selects the transferee court and judge. The court record, rather than a marketing label, establishes the proceeding’s scope.
JPML: about the Panel ↗Does an MDL mean everyone has one claim?
No. Coordination of cases is not the same as identifying an individual’s rights or a class’s certified scope. The Northern District of California describes both member-case records and a master MDL docket. A person’s own case, representation and applicable orders still matter.

No. A pending report is an index. It does not supply an authorized settlement notice, claim deadline, release or individual eligibility determination. Check the operative court documents and any authorized administrator materials before acting.
How can I use Settlefy?
Start with a case brief, inspect the linked court sources and organize existing records. The preparation roadmap is not the court’s current stage. No Settlefy screening map has counsel and clinical approval, and no claim is filed by using the questions.
