How to Check a Settlement or Refund Notice
Start with the named case, court, docket and issuing organization. Verify the notice through the official court record or a known official program page before submitting information. A directory listing alone is not a settlement notice.
What information should I verify?
Identify the case or program, issuing organization, exact eligibility language, relevant dates and the method for questions. Where a notice identifies a court proceeding, compare it with the official record and any court-authorized administrator information. A lawyer can review how a release or deadline affects your situation.
How can FTC refund programs be checked?
The FTC publishes a directory of its refund programs and says that program contact numbers can be verified there. FTC refund programs are not a comprehensive directory of class-action settlements, and not every settlement is run by the FTC.
FTC: refunds directory ↗Why should unexpected recovery messages be checked?
The FTC describes refund-and-recovery scams in which an impersonator offers to recover money and seeks payment or sensitive information. For an FTC refund program, verify the official program independently rather than relying on a contact or link in an unexpected message.
FTC: refund and recovery scams ↗What does Settlefy verify?
Settlefy connects its public case records to a dated JPML report and identifies research-source access and gaps. It does not presently verify an open settlement claim window for each matter or act as a settlement administrator.
